In a world where processed and fast foods have become incredibly popular and led to a number of health disorders such as obesity, people are always looking for shortcuts to shed those extra pounds. However, before you begin counting your calories and attempting to lose weight as quickly as possible, there are a few misconceptions about diets that need to be cleared up.

First of all, you really shouldn’t judge foods based on how many calories they contain. There are healthy and unhealthy foods, and all macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) come both in good and bad forms. Complex carbohydrates, such as vegetables, whole grains, and legumes are a far healthier option than simple sugars like refined starch or corn syrup. Saturated fats found in butter are healthier than trans fats, which should be avoided at all costs, regardless of the calorie count.

Second, there is no magical formula for weight loss, and it shouldn’t be your top priority. If you focus on healthy, unprocessed foods and switch to a healthier lifestyle, you will eventually lose weight. So, choose health before weight loss and weight loss will happen. The most important thing here is that, as long as you don’t return to your old habits, the weight will never return.
